History of Kemp

The city of Kemp is located in Kaufman country in the southeastern part. The town was named after Sara Kemp, the mother of the first postmaster. The first Post Office was opened in 1851. After the civil war settlers moved to Kemp. Southern Pacific Railroads laid tracks through Kemp and was finished in the mid 1880’s. A lot of the land around the city of Kemp is devoted to cattle production today.
