About Desoto
The region was established for the first time in 1847, making it one of North Texas ' oldest societies. A post office was set up in 1881, and in honor of Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart, a community physician, the colony was named DeSoto.
Around 120 individuals, a cotton gin, and a general store were home to DeSoto by 1885. The population decreased shortly afterwards to below 50. In 1930, the community was home to 97 individuals and several companies.
