The new Ford F-150 pickup truck is the ultimate heavy hauler and off-road adventurer. This
work horse features a power boost which combines the power of gas and electric, zone lighting
that adds additional LED lights in the bed, the roof and view mirrors and trailer backup assist
which is as easy as turning a knob. Although the new F-150 pickup truck posses these unique
features it still requires extra attention when it comes to the transmission fluid for safety and
performance just like any other vehicle.
It’s important to keep an eye on the level and condition of your trucks transmission fluid.
Transmission components can be some of the most expensive to repair and replace so it’s
crucial to keep the transmission fluid topped up and in good condition. Checking your
transmission fluid on a regular basis is recommended especially to those of us that do a lot of
towing and hauling.
However, this is easier said than done if you’re driving a newer F 150
model with a “Sealed-For-Life” transmission meaning the Ford 150 no longer has a standard
dipstick under the hood. Many modern vehicles are designed with a sealed-for-life
transmission because it does not require the same upkeep as the older models that have
standard dipstick. The new Ford F 150 transmission system requires less frequent care and
when it comes time for repairs and maintenance it should be performed only by transmission
specialists or an authorized dealer. Attempting to do-it-yourself transmission service could lead
to major costs or permanent damage to your truck. You may also risk voiding any warranty you
have by attempting to service the transmission yourself.
Models released after 2017 no longer sport a dipstick under the hood. The Ford 10R80
transmission has a fill plug and dipstick on the passenger side of the case. It can only be
accessed from underneath the vehicle that may require special tools and skills. The 10R80 uses
a screw-in dipstick that’s unique and are not the same in newer Ford f-150’s.
